 Arjen Robben in action
Holland stake their claim in their preparations for the upcoming UEFA EURO 2008 tournament by beating Wales in their pre-tournament friendly. The Oranje came with a 2-0 win from Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder lifting the mood and morale of the team, who recently lost Ryan Babel to injuries during training.
Marco van Basten’s team will face Italy in their first competitive match in EURO 2008. Playing mostly counter attacks, the Dutch was on hand with various runs forwards but was finding the going getting tougher as they were unable to break into the Wales defense. Wales, who played with three youngsters in their own preparation for the World Cup qualifiers had Craig Morgan, Ashley Williams and Lewin Nyatanga who were trying to keep out Van Nistelrooy.
Wales who has not conceded a goal in 394 minutes saw their record broken when Robinson who could not head away saw the ball fall onto Robben’s feet who then overcame Chris Guner before putting it to the back of the net passed Hennessey. Van Basten then brought in a set of new players after the break where substitute Dirk Kuyt nearly converting, but in the 53rd minute, the Dutch scored again.
