The Championship Trophy7
The UEFA EURO 2008 final is on tonight. The tournament concludes and its not going to be another 4 years before we hear of such an event again. The next EURO will be held on 2012 in Poland and Ukraine. But tonight, all eyes are back into the limelight between SPAIN vs GERMANY. The underachievers have finally made it to the finals, after a 24 years hiatus. The Germans who have won the championship three times, have no intention of letting up. Both teams are regarded as footballing giants in their respective countries and also in the whole of Europe as well as the world. Both teams have players plying their trade in the other leagues around the world. First off, who is playing. Ballack seemed to be doubtful as he skipped training after a minor injury, but many believe that it is probably a ploy to divert the Spanish’s attention. On Spain’s side, David Villa is definitely not be playing in his biggest game of his career after skipping off injured in the semi final clash against Russia. That leaves the team with the ineffective Torres upfront perhaps with Guiza who had a great game and a great goal in the previous match.

The Germans, apart from the doubtful Michael Ballack, who would most likely be featured to captain his team to glory, would be strong in all areas, no injuries reported, no suspensions to worry about and everyone on top of their game. Perhaps Germany’s biggest enemy is not the opposing side and would be their own that would form the biggest threat. Confidence is what matters in a game as big as this. Some people has called on this championships to be bigger than that of the world cup to the Europeans at least. So it is up to who is stronger mentally to come up tops in this tournament.

So it is now up to the two teams and the players within. It is an old and mature coach in Luis Aragones against a younger and new comer Joachim Lowe. It is experience and modern approaches. Ballack vs Torres, Lehmann vs Casillas, it can be anything, but it is surely going to be explosive.

Whoever wins, it has been a great campaign so far, let’s hope for an action packed, attacking and great flair combined with the virtues of the best in Europe.
