Dutch sent packing by vibrant Russians E-mail

The Dutch team goes home
Perhaps they peaked too soon, after all, this was a team that has underachieved for many tournaments. This is the Oranje we are talking about, home to one of the most talented football players ranked definitely up there with the likes of Italy, France, Spain and Germany. This is the team who not only survived the Group of Death, but stared at the threat right in the eyes, and qualified on top of their group ahead of the rest of the pack. And most of all, this is the team who beat both the World Cup finalists by 3 goal margins. This was the team that could have gone all the way. This was to be the team that could have bring the glory days back to the Netherlands. But perhaps this team did not show up. And the Russians did. It was the Russians who played with so much more determination. Perhaps it was Hiddink who knew what the secret is behind the Dutch team, who was tamed and brought down to earth with some basic Football lessons.

And in the 56th minute, the deadlock was broken. The Russians were in front thanks to a Roman Pavluchenko goal that took everyone by surprise. The Dutch pressed on for an equalizer and they seemed more desperate with every passing second. It was going to be a major upset to go out of the tournament with a 1-0 lose to Russia, and Ruud Van Nisterlrooy would not have any of it. He found his goal, 4 minutes from time to force extra time.

Extra time, which would have favoured the Oranje, if they have taken their chances did not and the Russians wrapped up the game in the second extra time half with2 goals coming from Torbinsky and the talismanic Arshavin. With that, Netherlands are out, again. Perhaps it was fatigue, but its all too late now. Russian will play whoever wins tonight, and if they can produce the free flowing football they showed against Holland, who knows, they just might win the tournament.

QT4 – Spain vs Italy – Fast vs slow starters

Tonight will have the last team to check into the last four and anything that reads Spain vs Italy would definitely be explosive. While Spain has produced some great form so far, they have yet to be fully tested except for that game against Sweden that they nearly lost. But they have had ample rest and the Italians who just came back after the grueling match against France which they must win to progress might have some tired legs. But just like Germany they are the slow starters and might just be better compared to the Spaniards.
