Even the 4-1 win against Russia in the first round did not come as good as this when Spain up their performance to crash party the final of the UEFA Euro 2008. This would be their first final in 24 years, and what a great way to get into the final than to hit the form that makes a champion a champion when the odds are against you. Well, not entirely. The odds were against the Spanish team to be honest, it would be all against Russia to win this tie but it was Spain who showed superiority against a resurgent Russian side with Andrei Arshavin the star at the moment. So much was said about how bad the Spaniards were playing in their quarter finals where they were unable to score a goal in regulation time, only in penalties did they manage to overcome Italy. Russia was on a different page altogether. What the Spaniards failed to do, the Russiand did so in commanding fashion, beating the lights out of the Dutch team with a 3-0 goal margin. So it goes without saying that many parties began doubting if Spain is up for it against Guus Hiddink’s giant killers.

They were. Period.

And it was in some peculiar situations that made the victory the more sweeter than it was. To start with, they won the game with a 3-0 goal margin, and get this, without David Villa and Fernando Torres. When the world is there to see the partnership of the two talismanic strikers to cause damages on the Russian side, the better of the pair David Villa had to be substituted after he went down injured in the 34th minute to be replaced by Cesc Fabregas, who took the midfield like it was his playground, and it was what he made it out to be.

The first half ended goal less. Xavi finally put Spain in front in the 50th minute and it was when Daniel Guiza was brought on to replace Torres who apart from some very good chances were firing blanks all night that Spain took a comfortable lead. What Torres failed to do, Guiza did it in 4 minutes.

After that, it was Spain all the way. Silva added the third as when the Russians were trying to find the goal somewhere. The Russians would have been used to losing to Spain by now were as good as going home without much fighting spirit left, after all, this would be the second time they would have lost to Spain in 3 goal margins.

So there it goes without saying now. Spain is up in the last game of a tournament, one that the world has yet to see for a long time going. They will be pitted against the stronger Germans, who has been anxiously waiting ever since the sent the Turks packing.

The final is going to be big. It is after all going to be played by two of the biggest footballing nations in the continent. Its Spain vs Germany and this is where it happens as the European Championship trophy beckons....
