Manchester United came through a hard worked vicotry in Rome last night during the Champions League Quarterfinals 1st leg against Roma. But they bring with them a 2 away goal deficit back to Old Trafford of which they would welcome with open arms.

Ronaldo scored his 36th goal of the season in all competitions while Wayne Rooney added another. The daunting task of playing in Italy was made to look so simple by the superior Red Devils, whose form and composure of late has been said to be of champions. This is of course preceding their recent win over Liverpool which they won by 3 goals with no return.

United went on the offensive from the go and nearly broke the duck with Ronaldo’s freekick hitting wide from 30 yards. Roma too was not going to sit and watch and tried chance after chance. Only in the 39th minute, after numerous attempts that Ronaldo managed to break from his marker. He provided a pass to Scholes who then chip it into the penalty area for Ronaldo to head in a superb goal.

Roma then tried to equalize but to no avail and to make things worse, Park Ji Sung headed the ball into the area and some confusion caused Rooney to take his chance to put it at the back of the net. This would be as far as it goes and from then on it was as per the training ground for the visitors, holding possession until full time to bring the second leg home with a 2 away goal advantageous cushion.
