Which way is home Scheva? In what is seen as a move back ‘home’, Chelsea FC striker Andriy Shevchenko said that he is 'really happy' to end his unhappy stint at Stamford Bridge and is on the brink of going ‘back’ to AC Milan, where he achieved much glory for the Italian club before moving to London. It has been reported that Shevchenko is set to complete his medical on Monday to start his return to the Italian club. After 2 miserable years at Chelsea, where he has yet to win any medals with, he said that moving back to the San Siro is like ‘winning the Champions League’.
He said “I'm happy. I have hoped for a return for a while and yesterday I began to believe that this deal could end well. For me it is as if I've won the Champions League. There were some complications, but now that everything is resolved I am really happy.” And if he completes his medical on Monday, he will most likely be reunited with his former teammates who up until today are still playing at the club and would start the first game against Bologna. The reportedly season-long loan means that he will be one of the three former European player of the year playing in the club together with Brazilian sensations Kaka and Ronaldinho. The sharp contrast perhaps would be the AC Milan will not be playing in the UEFA Champions League this season after finishing a dismay 5th last season. After going to London, he has only managed 4 goals in the top flight while another 5 in the next season while in comparison, he holds the record for being the second highest scorer in Milan history where he managed 127 goals in his 7 years with the club. The top record is held by Gunnar Nordahl, at 210 goals.
Adriano Galliani, the vice-president of Milan said that he is delighted to welcome ‘home’ the Ukranian. He said “After a series of frantic phone calls during the day today, we have reached an agreement with Chelsea. Andriy returns to the Rossoneri, tomorrow he will be in Milan, Monday he will undergo a medical, then he will sign a contract and from Tuesday he will be available to Carlo Ancelotti. We succeeded in bringing home the player who in the last 50 years has scored the most goals in our shirt. President (Silvio) Berlusconi and I am happy, as is our coach and I believe also our players. I believe that Milan are the only club in the world to have three European players of the year in their squad.”
He added that “Andriy has returned home and I am happy about it. I am a Milan fan and I am very happy. I've spoken to Andriy 48 times in the past three hours...the terms of the agreement are very private. Between today and tomorrow Andriy will be in Milan and he will start again his life as a Milan player. Andriy made a mistake in leaving and I believe that in the past two years he has realised that this is his home. Now he has made his financial sacrifices but at this point the only thing that matters is that he returns to us.”
