Running away: Frank Lampard Looks like the transfer saga involving Chelsea midfielder is set to be concluded with the ball in the player’s court. Massimo Moratti, the president of Internazionale said that the decision is now left with Lampard if he wants to go to the San Siro and leave Chelsea. Lampard, who still have 1 year left in his contract at Stamford Bridge, has yet to pen a new deal, which has been going on for the past 6 months or so. According to FIFA’s Article 17, a player can buy himself out of the club if he has 1 year left in his contract. On Chelsea's point of view however, they expect him to sit out of the last year if he do not sign a new contract soon.
There has been some new light in this saga every since former Blues boss, Jose Mourinho took over Inter Milan in the close season and vowed to bring Lampard and Drogba to Italy. So far, none of that has materialized yet.
While Chelsea has made it known that they will not want to sell Lampard, the fact that he has yet to agree to any new deals show that they might just be pressured to do so eventually. So far, there has been talks and discussions by new Blues coach Luiz Felipe Scolari who is trying to keep one of their most prized assets but so far, no conclusion could be drawan. On the other side of the table, Moratti voices his similar sentiments with team coach but admits that there really isn’t much they can do if Lampard do not want to leave.
He said “We have made our offer to Chelsea, now it will depend on the player. He is an element we like, but more than this we cannot do. But we are strong and I am happy with what we have done in the transfer market until now.”
Mourinho, who has always been impressed with the England international said “Frank Lampard is a different kind of person, not so extroverted. He's the best professional I've ever worked with. He's the player who trains better, has more concentration, more commitment and is always focused on himself. He is never happy about his performance, always wants to improve, and always wants to learn. Lampard is incredibly professional. God gave players the talent, and some of them waste this. But some others make themselves better and these are the kind of the players who can last forever.'
