As if being sent off is not bad enough, Liverpool Javier Mascherano is claiming that he did not know what happened. In a game that ended with 10 men for the visiting Reds and losing 3 goals to none, the controversy would probably and is still being debated as to whether the second yellow card was deserving. For not leaving the field immediately after the sending off, he might just be banned for more than the automatic 1 game that comes with the two yellow cards. He claimed that “I do not know why I was sent off. I asked the referee what was happening. I did not swear; I was not aggressive and I did not confront him. All I did was ask him what was happening, nothing else.” Only after the red card was flashed that Mascherano turned angry and refused to leave the field even after repeated shoving and pushing from his own teammates including captain Steven Gerrard and manager Rafa Benitez. “When he showed me the second yellow card and sent me off I could not believe it. I am sorry to my team-mates because that meant we went down to 10 men - and that made things even more difficult for us.”
