EPL - Adebayor and Arsenal go Tops E-mail
Wednesday, 13 February 2008

Arsenal won their last fixture against the Blackburn Rovers when Adebayor struck late on to wrap up a 2-0 victory for Arsenal over Blackburn on Monday night to edge Arsene Wenger's side five points clear at the summit.

This would be Adebayor’s ninth goal in seven league games for which eventually helped him earn 45 points, enough to be named in the Actim Index Team of the Week and more significantly leapfrog Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo and move into pole position in the overall standings, 50 points clear of the second-placed Portuguese star.

Teammate and defender Philippe Senderos was also named in the Team of the Week after netting the opener against Rovers, earning him a season's best 31 points while Cesc Fabregas and Gael Clichy retained their positions in the top 10, in fourth and sixth respectively, while Mathieu Flamini climbed a place to 15th. The Actim Index is calculated using a unique mathematical formula that rates each player's contribution, taking account in terms of goals, shots, passes, dribbles, tackles, crosses, saves, clearances, blocks, interceptions, assists, clean sheets, time on the pitch or number of points gained by the team with marks deducted for red and yellow cards.

The players in the Actim Index Team of the Week currently are: Goalkeeper: David James (Portsmouth); Defenders: Younes Kaboul (Tottenham), Jonny Evans (Sunderland), Phillipe Senderos (Arsenal), Wilfred Bouma (Aston Villa); Midfielders: Lassana Diarra (Portsmouth), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Dickson Etuhu (Sunderland), Dean Whitehead (Sunderland); Strikers: Emmanuel Adebayor (Arsenal), John Carew (Aston Villa).
