Leading to Avram Grant’s departure from Stamford Bridge, first team coach Henk ten Cate has had his contract terminated. Ten Cate, the Dutchman who previously managed Ajax Amsterdam was Grant’s assistant who previously held a similar position at Barcelona assisting Frank Rijkaard. He was recruited by Grant when he took over from Jose Mourinho late last year but with the departure of the Grant, Chelsea decided that there would be no place in the management team for Henk. The club released a statement that said "Chelsea Football Club can confirm that it terminated Henk Ten Cate's contract today. This follows a meeting this morning. As a result of the team management changes at Chelsea FC, and in the light of any forthcoming appointment, it was clear this was the correct decision for all parties. Everybody at Chelsea would like to thank Henk for his contribution since coming to the club last year."

There has been constant speculations as to who will be replacing Grant with Rijkaard among the names mentioned. Otherwise there is Luiz Felipe Scolari who would wait until the end of the upcoming EURO 2008 to decide. Other targets include Roberto Mancini, Mark Hughes and Guus Hiddink. Scolari who was offered the England national team before Steve McClaren is a known killer of England hopes while coaching Brazil and Portugal.
