| Australia bidding for Club World Cup |

Australia will be seeking to host the Club World Cup in the years 2009 and 2010. The Club World Cup is a tournament where the champion clubs from the six confederations under FIFA competes. It is an annual affair where another team from the host country will be included.
So far, Japan has hosted the last three events and another one this year while other United Arab Emirates too will be bidding to compete with Australia.
While Japan has done a great job so far, FFA Chief Executive Ben Buckley has announced that they are in a great position to win the hosting rights to the event which has so far included teams like AC Milan, Liverpool FC, Barcelona FC and Porto FC all playing at the far east.
He said that “ We believe Australia has very strong credential. Australia has quality facilities, good systems and infrastructure and the capacity to develop more, stable governance and football fans and all-round sports fans who are knowledgeable and passionate.”
So far, Buckley has also announced that the FFA is very interested to host the major soccer events so as to up increase the exposure of Australian football globally. He said that “We want to be a strong and positive contributor to the world of football in as many ways as possible. Next week's FIFA Congress is part of that strategy, as is the 2015 Asian Cup, bidding for the 2018 FIFA World Cup and also the 2009 and 2010 Club World Cup.” |
